2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cedar Bluff completed the 2015 season with a 13-2 record. Last year Cedar Bluff captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Tigers won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 1A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Maplesville at the Alabama Super Seven 59-24 in Auburn. No team at Cedar Bluff ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 2006. The 636 points scored by the Tigers last year were a team record in a single season. The Tigers hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach McWhorter saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 7-6 record in 2014. The high-scoring Cedar Bluff offense ranked 10th in the AHSAA. They averaged 42.4 points a game. Since 2010, Cedar Bluff has gone a combined 49-23. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 1A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cedar Bluff has gone a combined 206-97. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 1A and 37th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Jonathan McWhorter who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 86-37 over the past ten seasons at Cedar Bluff. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won three region crowns with Coach McWhorter. Coach McWhorter's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 86-37 (69.9%). The Cedar Bluff Tigers will play in Class 1A region six during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 1A but move from region seven over to region six. The Tigers enter the 2016 season having won 11 straight region games. The Tigers should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Tigers are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Tigers open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Chattooga GA on Thursday, August 25 at Bruce Field. This will be the second meeting between Cedar Bluff and Chattooga GA on the football field. The Tigers have a 0-1-0 record against Chattooga GA.
